This was the year that Harley introduced the rubber mounted XL Evolution 1200 engine to its Sportster line and this 2004 Harley Davidson XL 1200C Sportster Custom benefits from the power and smoothness. The hot rod street bike that the Sportster was born out of is maintained in the 2004 edition. The 1200cc 45 degree V Twin engine was inspired by Buell.
Anticipating longer trips and more pedal to the metal riding the engine was enhanced to handle more demands. Harley added piston oiling jets and increased the bikes oil capacity. The bigger cooling fins circling the V Twins cylinders help keep it running cooler. The engine is powder coated with a black treatment and the fins are polished sliver with chrome cam, primary covers and chrome rocker boxes.
The 21-inch laced front wheel and a 16-inch chromed slotted disc rear wheel fit add to the beef that people were looking for in finding. The Nissin four-piston brake calipers take good care of breaking responsibilities.
The addition of the larger one inch diameter rear axle gives the bike more stability and the stiffer swingarm really makes this bike responsive.
